Amidst the rapid global energy transition, Brazil has emerged as one of South America’s most dynamic clean energy markets. From natural gas reserve development and the world-leading fuel ethanol industry to rapidly expanding biomethane projects, the processes of drying, removing water and impurities, and eliminating odors are essential and indispensable stages of production.
High-performance molecular sieve adsorbents play a crucial role in all these processes.
As a specialized manufacturer of molecular sieves, we focus on producing the Xintao 3A, 4A, 5A, and 13X series, offering customized solutions for drying, water removal, gas purification, and odor elimination tailored to diverse operating conditions.
Market Demands for Molecular Sieves in Brazil
Brazil is the world’s second-largest ethanol producer, boasting a massive sugarcane-based ethanol supply chain. Simultaneously, the country is vigorously promoting the conversion of landfill gas and gas derived from agricultural waste fermentation into biomethane, intended for injection into natural gas grids or use as vehicle fuel.
Whether in natural gas dehydration, anhydrous ethanol drying, or biomethane purification, the deep removal of water and impurities is directly linked to product quality, equipment safety, and economic benefits. In these scenarios, compared to traditional desiccants like silica gel and activated alumina, molecular sieves offer distinct advantages: high adsorption capacity, high selectivity, an ultra-low dew point (down to -70°C), and regenerability for repeated use.
Four product series, precisely matched to different operating conditions:
Molecular Sieve 3A: ~3Å pore size — deep dehydration of ethanol/alcohol, drying of unsaturated hydrocarbons (adsorbs only water, without adsorbing ethanol molecules)
Molecular Sieve 4A: ~4Å pore size — drying and water removal from natural gas, air, and common gases; odor removal
Molecular Sieve 5A: ~5Å pore size — removal of small impurities from natural gas; separation of normal and iso-paraffins
Molecular Sieve 13X: ~10Å pore size — biomethane purification, simultaneous removal of water and impurities such as CO₂ and H₂S; deep odor removal
Molecular Sieve 3A — the top choice for anhydrous ethanol/alcohol drying
In the production of fuel-grade ethanol and anhydrous alcohol, the water content must be reduced to less than 0.1%. The pore size of the 3A molecular sieve allows only water molecules (~2.6Å) to enter the channels, while ethanol molecules (~4.4Å) cannot be adsorbed. This enables deep dehydration without product loss, making it the industry-standard solution for the dehydration stage following ethanol rectification.
Molecular Sieves 4A/5A — key solutions for natural gas drying and water removal
After extraction, natural gas typically contains saturated water vapor; dehydration is essential to prevent pipeline corrosion and hydrate blockages. 4A and 5A molecular sieves can reduce the natural gas dew point to below -60°C under high-pressure conditions, meeting pipeline transport standards; featuring long regeneration cycles and low pressure drop, they are ideal for extended use in large-scale dehydration towers.
13X Molecular Sieve — the all-around specialist for biomethane purification and odor removal
Raw biomethane gas (sourced from landfills, farms, and sewage treatment plants) typically contains water, CO₂, H₂S, and various volatile organic compounds—the very sources of odors. With large pores and high adsorption capacity, the 13X molecular sieve performs dehydration, CO₂ removal, and odor removal in a single step, greatly simplifying the biomethane purification process and helping the project meet quality standards for injection into the natural gas grid.
